   Why do people think they made big bets against these mortgages? They control $800 billion. Coming out of this with a $1 billion profit means they essentially broke even. It seems like a lot to the average person, but really it’s a poor performance for an investment bank of their size.

   @BlacksAreBeautiful yep… “the best way to rob a bank is to own one”, as they say. or even more apt “the best way to rob the people is to own a bank”

   The fact is, these guys HAVEN’T broken the law because they helped write it. They have developed a loophole where there is a clear distinction between fraud and unethical behavior then they already have pre-packaged responses which absolves them of any ethical transgression. Beautifully played GS.
