I was at a sportsbook and a guy there said the sportsbook line trapped the game. What does that mean?

  1. A line trap is when the sportsbook will attempt to get everyone to bet one side knowing that the other side is the right bet. It happens all the time. Sportsbook directors will always tell everyone how they want to have every game balanced with 50% on one side and 50% on the other side insuring them of a profit on the juice. That is not always the case. An example of when this happened I guess would be the Super Bowl between the raiders and the bucs. Practically everyone in America had the Raiders and the books never moved the line off of 4.5. Tampa won convincingly and it was the largest profit on any single game in the history of nevada sportsbooks from what I hear.
